Christians and others in Tennessee should press their state senator and house of representative member to introduce and support this resolution to condemn the global persecution of the people of God by state and private actors serving the interest of the religion of Mohammed. The rate at which people are martyred for the love of Jesus Christ and His government is astounding. — DJT
WHEREAS, the greatest human rights violation today is the persecution of religious minorities, the greatest number being Christians, with estimates that 100 million Christians worldwide have been persecuted for practicing their faith, and,
WHEREAS, unprecedented global Christian persecution has reached historic levels described as one of the “greatest crises of the modern age,” and,
WHEREAS, according to current global data reported by OpenDoorsUSA, monthly, 322 Christians are killed for practicing their faith, 214 Christian churches and properties are destroyed, and 772 forms of violence including beatings, abductions, rapes, arrests and forced marriages are committed against Christians, and,
WHEREAS, according to the United States Department of State, Christians in more than 60 countries face persecution from their governments or surrounding neighbor, and,
WHEREAS, unremitting global Christian persecution is annihilating Christianity from parts of the world, particularly the Middle East, where Christianity recently was at least 20% of the population but has been reduced to 4% and,
WHEREAS, in 2014 the Pew Research Center reported that as compared to other religious groups, Christians were subjected to the highest number of attacks and acts of religious hostility, and,
WHEREAS, in 2015, persecution of Christians has increased around the world, spreading to places not previously reported such as parts of Asia, Latin America, and especially sub-Saharan Africa, and,
WHEREAS, in April 2015, a meeting titled “The Persecution of Christians Globally: A Threat to International Peace and Security,” was held alongside a regular United Nations session. Speakers cited that between 2006 and 2012, Christians were targeted through harassment, persecution or martyrdom in 151 out of 193 Members States of the United Nations and called for increased UN action to protect Christians, and,
WHEREAS, there is a relentless persecution of Christians reported in the daily news.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE CONCURRING; that silence supports the oppressors and so the General Assembly condemns the global unrelenting persecution of Christians and acts of terror and aggression against Christians, and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the General Assembly calls upon the President, Congressional leaders, and Governors to speak out specifically about the global persecution of Christians, and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the General Assembly calls upon the U.S. State Department Ambassador-at-large for International Religious Freedom to address specifically and as a top priority, the global persecution of Christians, and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the General Assembly encourages Faith leaders of all denominations to join in speaking out against the global persecution of Christians, and,
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that an enrolled copy of this resolution be forwarded to the President of the United States and the United States Congress.
